Specializing in training and developing exceptionally bred bird dogs.
Cuttin Coveys Kennels — Our Story & Direction
I started my upland journey in 2018 while living in Central Montana with my first bird dog. After that first season, everything changed—my priorities, lifestyle, and long-term goals shifted toward developing bird dogs at a higher level. That same year, I began building a string of dogs with the intention of creating a program rooted in true performance, not convenience.
Over time, I sought out dogs with the genetics, grit, and potential to compete—not just hunt. The bloodlines in our kennel today come from proven field stock with the ability to run horseback stakes and produce the next generation of field competitors.
We’re based in New Plymouth, Idaho, with 22,000 acres right out the back door and wild bird exposure that most programs don’t have access to. Dogs here develop in real time, on real ground, in real bird country.
Guiding professionally helped shape the program early on. I’ve spent an average of 140 days a season hunting behind dogs across MT, SD, KS, AZ, ID, and OR—starting at a lodge in Kansas and eventually guiding at Highland Hills Ranch in Oregon, the 2023–2024 Orvis Wingshooting Lodge of the Year. Those miles, birds, and seasons built the foundation for everything CCK has become.
In spring 2024, I took over the grounds of legendary trainer and field trial professional Dave Walker. Having access to proper facilities and wild bird country has completely elevated what I can do with dogs and the direction of the kennel.
As of 2026, I will no longer be training general hunting dogs.
All of my time, energy, and resources will go toward producing, developing, and campaigning true horseback field trial dogs—dogs with the potential to run, win, and reproduce at the highest level of AKC competition.
Cuttin Coveys Kennels is no longer just about making good hunting companions. The focus moving forward is raising, training, and campaigning dogs that can compete, place, and influence the breed.

“I know there are trainers with many more years of experience than I..
However, my commitment to my program and where I want to end up is unmatched. I am all in and committed to developing the best bird dogs in the country. I do not know where CCK will permanently end up, but I know wherever that is, the dogs will always be thought of before myself.”
